School Liaison Officers are a great resource for military Families looking for help with their children’s education. SLOs can provide information on student registration in the local school system, the Student Meal Program, and resources on primary, secondary, and post-secondary education. They also coordinate with SAC and YC for Homework Centers and Youth Technology Labs. Military and Civilian sponsors should visit the School Liaison Officer for an explanation of educational options when in-processing with the installation, and out-processing via the SLO ensures that school accounts are cleared, Horizon student lunch program accounts are cleared, informs the current school to prepare a child’s cumulative record, and ensures that the receiving school can begin new enrollment. Military Impacted Schools Association (MISA) has a student checklist at the following site http://militaryimpactedschoolsassociation.org/127/student-checklist to ensure that The Exchange, AAFES, and the local grocery store have cleared accounts before departing the garrison.
