Boot Camp for New Dads

One session 4.5 hour session for new dads. It has a male facilitator and we try to incorporate veteran dads as mentors for the new dads. It also uses the empathy belly and anatomically correct dolls. Classes are presented the third Saturday of each month at Schofield. This program is modeled from the very successful one used by the Navy in Hawaii. This is a great example of sharing resources, programs and curriculums.

New Parents Basic Training

Five sessions for first time delivery and parenting. This class includes the Lamaze model given by a contract provider. Each session is two hours. This class is given at night at Schofield and takes 15 couples for each series of classes.

Play Morning:

A weekly two hour learn and play session designed to assist parents in playing with their infants while learning about different aspects of their lives. The topics to be included are; Growth, Development, Nutrition, Temperament, and Discipline. These sessions also encourage parents to share their experiences as moms and dads and to network with other parents.. 

Toddler Play & Learn with children 12-36 months

A weekly two hour learn and play session designed to assist parents in playing with their toddlers while learning about different aspects of their lives. The topics to be included are; Growth, Development, Nutrition, Temperament, and Discipline. These sessions also encourage parents to share their experiences as moms and dads and to network with other parents.

Preschool Play & Learn with children 36-60 months

A weekly two hour learn and play session designed to assist parents in playing with their preschool child while learning about different aspects of their lives. The topics to be included are; Growth, Development, Nutrition, Temperament, and Discipline. These sessions also encourage parents to share their experiences as moms and dads and to network with other parents.

Parent Education Classes:
Nurturing Parenting

Offered in home visits by NPSP. Classes include sessions for blended families, single parent families, and parenting in general. Classes teach parents about relationship skill building, and communication, as well as provide support for families with children. NPSP has in to the Nurturing Parenting Program and parenting will focus on appropriate child discipline and discipline alternative to physical punishment. The format is concurrent groups for parents and children separated by age groups. Nurturing parenting uses the Adult Adolescent Parenting Inventory for outcome assessment.
